Thursday, September 1, 2011 Around 1100hrs, District 19 was dispatched to the Gibbstown Shopping Center for a reported building fire. A caller at the Dollar General store was reporting smoke coming from the ductwork in the middle of the store. Rescue 1918 & Engine 1911 responded in to assist units from Gibbstown, Paulsboro and Logan Twp’s. Crews determined it to be a bad belt on a roof mounted HVAC Unit. As the crews were cleaning up, Gloucester County 9-1-1 notified Logan Twp Fire Chief Scott Oatman that they were receiving calls of a working house fire on Erica Lane off of Back Creek Road in Woolwich Twp. The crews on location all responded to Woolwich for the working fire. Rescue 1918, Tender 1914 and Engine 1912 all responded to assist. The fire was through the roof on arrival. The fire went 3 alarms and Water Tenders from all over Gloucester County and a couple from Salem County responded in to provide water supply to the units operating on scene. Friday, August 26, 2011 A Quick Note fromEast Greenwich Township 159 Democrat RoadMickleton, NJ 08056 August 26, 2011 5:00pm This afternoon a meeting was held with all Departments to finalize the course of action for the upcoming storm. We are asking residents to do the following: 1. Gather all outside items and place them in a secure location2. Lower water levels in swimming pools by 14 inches3. Turn off outside irrigation systems for the next 7 to 10 days4. In case of emergency please call 911 At 6:00 am Sunday our local Office of Emergency Management will begin taking non-emergency calls. The number is 423-7688 and is to be used for non-emergency calls. Please use 911 for all emergencies. The township will have additional staff to help with the needs of our residents. Please talk to your neighbors over the next 24 hours to work together as a team to help one another. The latest information still has the storm hitting the area around midnight Saturday. We will be participating in another conference call at 6:30 tonight with Governor Christie and other leaders around the State for another update. We will keep you informed of any dramatic changes in the information we receive. We also have a facebook page "East Greenwich, NJ" which we will also be keeping residents informed. Friday, August 26, 2011 On Thursday at 5:00 pm a conference call was held with the Governor and Mayors from around the State. In preparation for Hurricane Irene Governor Christie has signed Executive Order 73 declaring a state of emergency in New Jersey. In East Greenwich all of the departments have been preparing for the storm as well.We are asking all the residents to lower water levels in swimming pools by 14 inches. Please gather patio furniture, gas grills and any other outdoor items and move them into the garage or another secure location.There is a public safety meeting being held today with the appropriate departments to finalize the course of action plan for East Greenwich. Sunday, August 21, 2011 Around midnight Saturday Night, the Mantua Township Fire Department was dispatched to a dwelling fire on Twin Lakes Drive. A neighbor was reporting the house next door was on fire. MTPD arrived and confirmed a working fire. Chief 22 arrived and struck the 2nd Alarm. Due to the lack of hydrants in the area, EGTFR Tender 1914 was special called to assist with water supply. Engine 1913 also responded and set up a refilling site on the corner of Berkley Road and Spring Hill Drive. Crews were able to quickly douse the flames and bring the fire under control. Also operating on scene were members of the Pitman Fire Company, Highland Fire Company, Woodbury Fire Department and Washington Township Fire Department’s.
Monday, August 15, 2011 Around 1300 hrs Monday, EGPD and East Greenwich Township Fire & Rescue were dispatched to North Street for the report of a vehicle in the water. A local boater had spotted the submerged vehicle in between two local boat ramps on the Mantua Creek. The area was not accessible by land. Utility 1917, Marine 19-1, Chief 19 and Deputy 19 made the response. East Greenwich Township Police & Fire Units were assisted by Marine 17 from Paulsboro FD, the Malaga FD Dive Team (Sta 43-4), EG CERT Team, NJ State Police TEAMS Unit, GC BLS 82-35 and GC Field Comm. 2. Unfortunately a woman was found in the submerged car. The vehicle was raised using specialized air bags and the vehicle was towed to Zander’s Boat Ramp in Mount Royal by Marine 17 where it was then pulled ashore by Riehl’s Towing. The incident is under investigation by the East Greenwich Police Department.
Thursday, August 11, 2011 Crews in District 19 had a busy day Thursday. At 0400hrs Rescue 1918, Engine 1911 and Deputy 19 responded onto Interstate 295 to assist with a Commercial MVC with entrapment. Later in the Morning Engine 1911 responded to two Carbon Monoxide Alarms in the Amherst Meadows Development and one Automatic Fire Alarm at the County Nursing Home. Wednesday, August 3, 2011 On Wednesday Morning District 19 and Gloucester County BLS Units 82-35 & 82-45 were dispatched to the intersection of Kings Hwy and Lodge Avenue in the Mount Royal section of town for a 3 car motor vehicle crash. Rescue 1918’s crew assisted with securing the power to the vehicle and controlling the leaking fluids on the roadway. The Rescue Company was in service for approximately 30 minutes. Two patients were transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
Wednesday, August 3, 2011 Thursday August 4th National Night Out at Thompson Park East Greenwich Township will be sponsoring National Night Out on Thursday, August 4th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Thompson Family Park. Come out and support your neighborhood in a support of Crime Prevention. This event is sponsored by East Greenwich Municpal Alliance through State and County Grants.
Saturday, July 30, 2011 On Saturday fire department crews were dispatched to the Gatherings of East Greenwich development to assist Gloucester County Animal Control with rescuing some mallard ducklings that had fallen into a storm drain. The wayward ducklings were netted and returned to the area pond.
Friday, July 1, 2011 The Members of East Greenwich Township Fire & Rescue would like to recognize Firefighter Ed McMahon for passing his Emergency Medical Technician Test. Ed is a newer member of the department having recently moved to Mount Royal. He was a former member of the Oak Valley Fire Company in Deptford Township. Congratulations FF/EMT McMahon on your accomplishment!
