Friday, June 29, 2012 On Friday at lunchtime, the volunteers of District 19 were alerted to a possible house fire on the 100 block of Billows Drive. A homeowner was reporting a kitchen fire and the house filling with smoke. The fire was out on arrival but the house had a smoke condition. The assignment was held to Engine 1911 & Deputy 19. Engine 1911 went in service with a blower unit to remove the smoke from the dwelling. Later that night just before the severe thunderstorm warnings were posted District 19 was alerted to two possible dwelling fires almost simultaneously. One location was on the 500 block of Kings Highway and the second was on the 500 block of Morgan Drive. Both homeowners were reporting lightning strikes. The Kings Highway Incident resulted in no fire, just an odor from a nearby strike. Police arrived on Morgan Drive reporting heavy fire. Engine 1911, 1912 and Rescue 1918 made the response. Automatic and Mutual Aid Companies also assisting on scene were Ladder’s 2516, 626, 2316, 2116, Engine 1721 & GC BLS 82-35. Crews operated on scene for 2 ½ hours. The fire is under investigation by the Gloucester County Fire Marshal’s Office.
Tuesday, June 19, 2012 On Tuesday Evening the members of East Greenwich Township Fire & Rescue stopped by Riehl’s Towing for some Auto Extrication Training. The department recently purchased a new set of hydraulic rescue tools to replace the 30+ year old tools the department had been using. The department purchased Holmatro Rescue tools from ESI out of Horsham, PA. ESI’s Vice President Pat Grubb trained the group on the operation of the new tools and motors then the crews got to practice using the equipment on a couple of junk cars. Thanks to Riehl’s Towing for donating the cars to us!
Saturday, June 9, 2012 At 0222hrs this morning, District 19, two Gloucester County EMS Units and an Underwood Hospital Medic Unit were dispatched to Kings Highway & Cedar Roads for a T-Bone motor vehicle crash. Police arrived on scene and confirmed entrapment. Rescue 1918 arrived on location and went into service with the Jaws of Life to open the passenger side doors. All of the patients were removed from the vehicle, loaded into waiting ambulances and transported to local hospitals. Fire Units operating on scene included Rescue 1918, Engine 1911, Utility 1910 and Deputy 19.

Tuesday, May 29, 2012 It was a steady weekend of calls for the volunteers of District 19. During the course of the weekend fire department units responded to a Motor Vehicle Crash on Hereford Lane, handled a Automatic Fire Alarm on North Street, a Carbon Monoxide Detector Activation on Curtmantle Drive, a Motor Vehicle Crash on Kings Highway, removed a downed tree on West Tomlin Station Road and responded to power line fire in a tree on Friendship Road. The Chief’s would like to Thank all the members that took time out during their holiday weekend schedules to help when the pagers rang out.
Tuesday, May 22, 2012 This evening the volunteers of East Greenwich Township Fire & Rescue traveled to Camden County Fire Academy to use their Structural Burn Facility. Crews practiced live fire evolutions on the first, second and third floors of the training building. Crews worked on their nozzle operation skills and maneuvering 2 inch attack hose through the maze of stair towers to access the fires. This simulated operating in the townhouses in the Mount Royal section of town. The volunteers of District 19 conducted live fire training for 2 hours before heading home. Thanks to Harmony Fire Company for covering our calls while we were out of town.
Saturday, May 19, 2012 Early Morning Friday the volunteers of East Greenwich Township Fire & Rescue were alerted to a mutual aid assignment on Thompson Avenue in Paulsboro. District 17 had a working fire that had started in the kitchen. Crews quickly got the job under control and EGTFR’s Engine1911 & Rescue 1918 were reassigned to provide cover up for any other assignments that may come in. Saturday Afternoon District 19 was dispatched to the West Broad Street in Paulsboro to assist with another working fire. Paulsboro Engine 1721 arrived on scene of a 2 ½ story commercial property with smoke showing. A fire had broken out in the Laundromat side of the facility. Engine 1911 & Rescue 1918 responded to assist. This fire was also quickly extinguished using a 1 ¾ hand line. Crews remained on location removing smoke from the different businesses in the building. Also responding in were Thorofare’s Engine 614, Gibbstown’s Utility 2117 and GC BLS 82-35.
Thursday, April 19, 2012 About 0110 this morning District 19, Rescue 21, GC BLS 82-35 and Underwood Paramedics were dispatched to a Car vs. House MVC in the Mount Royal section of town. A vehicle with one occupant had lost control struck two parked cars, two houses causing significant damage to the second house and striking a natural gas main. Due to the patient’s deteriorating condition, the patient was rapidly extricated from the vehicle. BLS 82-35 & LS-1 transported the patient to Cooper Trauma. Fire Department crews stood by with scene lighting for the police departments investigation and to assist the EG Construction Code Official. The Code Official had been requested to check the structural integrity of the dwellings. Fire units operating on scene included Deputy 19, Rescue 1918, Engine 1911, Gibbstown Fire Units Chief 21 & Rescue 2118.
Tuesday, April 17, 2012 On Tuesday Evening the volunteers of East Greenwich Township Fire & Rescue went to the Gloucester County Fire Academy to practice their skills. Tonight’s training session was on extinguishing vehicle fires. Crews’ worked on fine tuning skills. Thanks to the staff of the Gloucester County Fire Academy and Gloucester County College for allowing us to use the facility.
Sunday, April 15, 2012 We would like to remind everyone to make sure they test their smoke detectors monthly to ensure the batteries are in good working order. If you did not change the batteries out during the recent time change, now is a good time to do so. There have been many working house fires in South Jersey recently some with fatal outcomes.
